Introducing Smart Pulse
In the constant balancing act between performance and cost in cloud data warehouses, timing is everything. Optimize too slowly, and you waste budget on oversized resources. React too late, and users face query slowdowns or missed SLAs.
That’s why we’re excited to introduce Smart Pulse, the newest capability in Seemore Data’s Smart Warehouse Optimization suite. Smart Pulse brings hourly autonomous warehouse optimization to Snowflake environments, giving teams the ability to predict, adjust, and right-size resources continuously, with or without human intervention.
The Challenge: Daily Optimization – not enough
Most warehouse monitoring and optimization today happens at the daily level, sizing resources based on the busiest workloads in a given day. While this helps avoid bottlenecks, it ignores the reality that workload patterns shift dramatically hour by hour. Mornings may be light, afternoons intense, nights quiet—but the warehouse size stays fixed for the entire day. The result is predictable: overpaying during idle hours and under-provisioning during peak bursts. To truly align performance with cost, optimization needs to operate at a more granular level.
In reality:
- Query volumes spike and dip throughout the day, hour-by-hour.
- Different business units and workloads put stress on the system at different times.
- Cost anomalies can emerge suddenly and silently.
Traditional optimization approaches miss these nuances—leading to over-provisioning during quiet hours and performance bottlenecks during peak loads.
How Smart Pulse Works
Smart Pulse adds horizontal scaling intelligence and automated auto suspend to Seemore’s existing automated vertical optimization framework.
Here’s how it functions:
- Hourly Cost & Performance Forecasting
The Smart Pulse algorithms evaluate historical workloads , while simulating their runs on different warehouse configurations. The simulation helps predict cost and performance output. - Pattern & Anomaly Detection
The system identifies recurring usage patterns and anomalies, whether they occur daily at the same time or as unexpected spikes, and models the optimal warehouse configuration for each hour. - Recommendation or Autonomous Action
On top of delivering recommendations, Smart Pulse allows customers to choose:- Manual Mode: Review and approve optimization actions.
- Autonomous Mode: Let Seemore’s AI Agent act automatically, adjusting warehouse size in-flight.
- Actionable Insights on the Dashboard
Customers can now view:- Current warehouse configurations vs. hourly fluctuations
- Auto-suspend settings
- Annual cost projection
- Runtime vs cost correlations
- Estimated savings with reasoning for each recommendation.
Why Hourly Optimization Matters
Vertical optimization, choosing the right warehouse size, remains a core best practice. But granular hourly configuration scaling unlocks another layer of efficiency:
- Reduce Overprovisioning: Scale down during off-peak hours without waiting for a full-day recalculation.
- Handle Predictable Spikes: Scale up for known busy hours (e.g., daily reporting runs, month-end close).
- Catch & Fix Cost Anomalies: Detect sudden workload shifts and adjust before cost escalates.
This approach aligns spend and performance far more closely with actual demand, ensuring every dollar spent delivers measurable value.
An Example in Action
Imagine a marketing analytics warehouse that runs heavy ELT jobs at 2 AM, lighter ad-hoc analysis during the morning, and intense BI workloads mid-afternoon.
Without Smart Pulse:
- You might size the warehouse for the largest workload of the day, wasting compute for 20+ hours.
With Smart Pulse:
- The warehouse scales to XL from 1:30–2:30 AM, lowers auto suspend to 6 seconds at 2:00AM-4:00AM, L from 2:30–8:00 AM, M during the late morning lull, and lowers horizontal scale to 1-3 between 4:00AM-8:00AM and L again for the afternoon as dashboard usage surges, all autonomously.
The result:
Performance is maintained when it matters, and costs drop significantly during idle or low-demand periods.
Control + Confidence
We’ve built Smart Pulse with control and transparency in mind. Every optimization recommendation comes with:
- Predicted performance impact
- Cost savings estimates
- Historical reasoning
- Execution history for full auditability
Whether you want to approve every change or set-and-forget with autonomous mode, Smart Pulse works on your terms.
The Big Picture
Smart Pulse builds on Seemore’s mission to deliver end-to-end visibility, actionable intelligence, and autonomous optimization across the data stack.
By adding hourly warehouse optimization, we’re making it possible for data teams to:
- Operate leaner without sacrificing SLAs.
- Tie cost control directly to real business usage patterns.
- Detect and act on anomalies before they impact budgets.
It’s the next step toward truly self-optimizing data infrastructure and one more way Seemore turns performance tuning from a manual chore into an automated, predictable process.
